Once we arrived at the Baths I had my assistants set up a flash unit, suspended over the Roman Bath on a boom. This would not have got past health and safety today and I was really nervous incase the boom failed, fell into the water and electrocuted Peter and myself.

The scene reminded me of an Andrew Wythe painting that I had always adored and had influenced me so much in my own painting and into photography. I felt the extraordinary poetic beauty of the synchronicity of being in the same landscape he had viewed and which had inspired him and now inspired me.

Chiswick Mall runs along the side of the river Thames (the river that winds its way through the City of London on to the open sea).
